THE NEED FOR STATES UNDER STATE OF EMERGENCY RULE TO BAN PUBLIC VIEWING CENTERS

BY SALIHU ADAMU
Public viewing centers as the name implies, are provided places in a particular area meant for the masses to gather and view or watch certain films and programming such as football among others, for entertainment as well as impacting values and sharing ideas among themselves.
But to a sad point, these centers today became a graveyards for many innocent lives where by some heartless blood suckers turn the viewing centers to a “life snatching points”. Definitely, the alarming numbers of attacks on these centers is quite worrisome considering the values live has.
For instance, 1st June this year appeared to be a tragic day to football fans as a deadly expulsions rocked a viewing center that was screening a televised football match located at Kabang near a major military base in Mubi Adamawa state. The expulsion left over 40 football fans dead and injured more than fifty. Recently, there was another attack targeting a football viewing point in Damaturu, the capital city of Yobe state which at least killed 20 people and destroyed properties, various dailies confirmed from the police that the suicide bomber used tricycle known as keke napep during the attack.
The most astonishing issue is that most of these attacks on viewing centers do occurred in states under state of emergency rule, where by troops were deployed by federal government to safeguard people's lives and properties, but to a sad note, the effort was futile. This clearly shows that federal government is ineffective and has failed in its first responsibility for the protection of lives and properties.
Therefore, the state governments should stand up to take a proactive measure base on their level rescue the lives of their citizens. Thus the action taken by Adamawa state government for closing down all public viewing centers in the state is remarkable, It is therefore advisable for the rest of the states follow the step of Adamawa state government in other to rescue the lives of football enthusiastic in this Brazil 2014.
