team of South African surgeons have performed the world's first successful penis transplant. The marathon nine-hour operation was conducted in December at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town in conjunction with Stellenbosch university. It's thought to be second time the procedure has been attempted. The doctors said the patient, whose identity is being protected for ethical reasons, has made a full recovery. His penis had to be amputated after complications arose from a traditional circumcision.
